Sunday January 20th Raining Lazy Day

Got up real early 4:00 a.m. and started thinking of all the things we have accomplished is just a few short days.  Spent my usual start with computer, american coffee and reading.  We got a late start going out because the weather was yucky.  Off and on rain so outdoor trips were set aside for another day.  Ashley took us to a sidewalk restaurant and we had pork soup, rice and Chinese donuts.  It was very tasty.  She also ordered I think kidney soup to try, but not me.

PX then joined us and we went to the Chinese Mall, so busy you could hardly walk.  Prices more reasonable.  Everything in Chinese and you bargain.

Saw a snake charmer in the mall.  Yuck.

Then we decided to go home and on the way PX stopped for more food, snacks for playing cards and hanging out.  She bought a fruit that was called a Durain and it was not very good.

Look up on the internet and see what it says about it.  Outside is very sharp & prickley things all over it and it attacked Grampy's leg and made it bleed.  Played cards with Billy and we were tired so Ash and PX went out to eat again around 8 and Gramp & I went to bed

They eat supper very late here, of course they start the day a lot later than we do too most of the time.  Having so much fun and still can't believe we are here.  A few things I have noticed that are different from home:  no outlets in the bathrooms, and the floors all have drains so you can wash the walls and floors and it just drains out.  Awesome especially for cleaning the bathrooms.  Love to you all. Another day having a wonderful time.

  1. We ate bah kuh teh; pork rib soup. The broth is peppery garlic and the meat just falls off the bone. We also had baby bok choi sauteed with fried shallots and bowls of rice for all. Yum yum, Gram! Maybe offering the kidney/intestine dish was a bit too early in the trip, but I am determined to get you to try things you cannot eat at home. Like the Durian! It's banned in taxis and most of the hotels because of the stench! We also picked up fried you tiao (more of the "Chinese donuts" filled with red bean or anisette to dip in soy milk while playing cards. Will bring you to the noodle shop later in the trip; all we do is eat eat eat!!!
