January 16, 2013 - GRR Departure 16-18th One Day

January 16-18, 2013 First Day Left on the 16th arrived on the 18th

Mike brought us to the GRR Airport with a flight scheduled for 6:00 p.m. flight to Newark and a 11:00 p.m flight to Singapore on Singapore Air.  We were both anxiously awaiting our trip to see Ashley and right away we were told that our flight to Newark was delayed one hour due to weather in Newark.  After waiting  a short time we were informed it was no longer an 1 but 2 ½ .  Was worried about our flight to Singapore being affected but the airlines said we would make the connection okay.  Decided to eat in GR because we wouldn’t have much time in Newark.  Went ordered my food and went to pay and the cashier told me that the man ahead of me paid for my meal.  He was already gone and don’t have a clue who or why.  Made my day.  Finally got off and made our way to Newark, arrived 10:00 and walked in to the terminal and a very well dressed young man was standing there with a sign that had our name on it.  So surprised again.  He said when flights are delayed they come and get the passengers because of time constraints.  Good thing we never would have found it in time.  Down a light in the terminal and then bus ride to another and walking to the end of it.  With his help we had 10 minutes to spare.  Got on the plane and Wow wow wow.  Have never ever been on a plane like this one.  Soooooooooooooo special, and the crew was all dressed up in Oriental outfits full length that waited on us from the time we got on until we walked off the plane.

The plane can hold up to 230 passengers but this class only takes on 98 because of the services.  Unbelievable.  It was like having our own small bedroom and have a maid take care of our every need.  It did make into a bed and the 17 ½ hour trip never felt uncomfortable for one minute.  Own entertainment center and you could watch a thousand different things, play games of all kinds, track the journey of our flight, music, anything you can think of.   Felt like we were floating on a cloud the whole way.  Food out of this world, and everytime you turned someone was there offering you something to eat or drink, slippers, mask, newspapers, magazines, snacks, steaming towel to freshen up.  Once dinner was over with and people got comfortable they turned out lights, you could have your own on,but the major plane lights went off.  You could watch TV, read or sleep.  If you wanted something you just pressed your service button and you could have anything you wanted at any time.  Know now why it is so expensive.   Arrived on time and made it through customs and there was Ashley waving and we were excited all over again.  We had finally reached our destination.  She was a very beautiful sight to see.  Took taxi back to her apartment and she then told us our tickets for return got changed and we are staying longer and returning on the 14th not the 5th.  Awesome we will be here for Chinese New Year. Everything we have seen on our taxi to her appt. is very modern and clean.  Flowers and trees all in bloom.  Got unpacked, taking showers and meeting Ashley for lunch.  It is now Friday morning here, Thursday night in states. So glad we came. Ashley’s apartment is on the 40th floor and looks out over the harbor.  Beautiful sunny day here. 80 degrees but very humid.

Ashley came home for lunch and we went to a food court (called Hawkers)for real Chinese food.  Was great and extremely busy.  It was around lunch time and everyone in Singapore must east there.  Then walked Ashley back to her job and Claude and I walked around the inlet and the area around Ashley’s condo.

Yes, then we came back and took a NAP.  So ready.  Only down for a 1 ½, Ashley came home and went out to another sit-down restaurant for the only think on the menu – steak in a special sauce and FF.  So yummy.

Ashley friend PX joined us after dinner and then we stopped for a cocktail, then home. to bed.   Ashley, Keith and PX are planning for us to go to Manila to visit Keith on Weds 4:30 p.m.  Will stay there until Sunday.  Spent a while chatting first but then took a great long sleep.  11-8 I haven’t done that in a long time.  We are planning to go out to breakfast around 10 for an Indian one, Ashley’s favorites.
